Webinar on “Waste Management Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean” in Commemoration of World Oceans Day 2020
World Oceans Day 2020 on June 8 this year focuses on Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean. To commemorate this, the National Coordination Team for Marine Debris Handling (TKN PSL) held a webinar with the theme “Waste Management Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean”. This webinar presents various stakeholders such as government, academics, and the private sector to discuss local innovations in waste management. Through this discussion, it is hoped that the public can be adequately educated about the urgency of the problem of marine waste in Indonesia and is triggered to create new innovations in the management of marine waste in Indonesia.
In this webinar, Dr. Aryo Hanggono (Director General of Marine Management of KKP), represented by Muhammad Yusuf (Director of Coastal and Small Islands Utilities KKP) acted as the keynote speaker. Meanwhile, several speakers such as Prof. Dr. Ocky Karna Radjasa (Director of Research and Community Service, Kemristekbrin / Chair of Working Group 5 (Research and Development), TKN PSL), Prof. Dr. Akbar Tahir (Leader of Marine Plastic Research Group of Hasanuddin University), Dr. Devi Dwiyanti (Marine and Fisheries Research Center, KKP), Muhammad Ghozali (LIPI Chemical Research Center), and Andre Kuncoroyekti (STOP Project Muncar, Systemiq). All speakers gave presentations on innovation in handling marine waste in their respective fields.
In response, some government representatives also took part, namely Ujang Solihin Sidik (Head of Sub Directorate of Goods and Packaging, KLHK), Muhammad Yusuf (Director of Coastal and Small Islands Utilization, KKP / Chair of Working Group 3 (Coastal and Marine Waste Management), TKN PSL), and Dr. M. Saleh Nugrahadi (Acting Assistant Deputy for Waste Management, Kemenkomarves). On this occasion, Agustaviano Sofjan (Director of Development, Economy, and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) also provided a closing response.
The webinar program was moderated by Prita Laura from Pandu Laut. The enthusiasm of the participants was quite high, with a total number of more than 1300 people registered for the program. The webinar was carried out through Zoom media and also broadcasted live through the Youtube channel of the Secretariat of TKN PSL.
