2017 UN Ocean Conference Achievements
”Our oceans, our future: partnering for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14”
The 1st UNOC was held in New York, the USA, on 5 June – 9 June 2017 and produced the “Our Ocean, Our Future: Call for Action” declaration
Seven partnership dialogues with marine-related themes were conducted (one of the dialogues: Indonesia and Norway on marine pollution)
Encouraged the emergence of voluntary commitments from countries to support the implementation of SDG 14.
Indonesia was elected as the Vice President of the Conference, representing the interests of Asia-Pacific countries and promoting Indonesia’s commitment to marine conservation and combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF).

We must conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The overarching theme of the 2022 UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) is “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions“.

- Addressing marine pollution
- Managing, protecting, conserving and restoring marine and coastal ecosystems
- Minimizing and addressing ocean acidification, deoxygenation and ocean warning
- Making fisheries sustainable and providing access for small-scale artisanal fishers to marine resources and markets
- Promoting and strengthening sustainable ocean-based economies, in particular for small island developing States and least developed countries
- Increasing scientific knowledge and developing research capacity and transfer of marine technology
- Enhancing the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and their resources by implementing international law, as reflected in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
- Leveraging interlinkages between Sustainable Development Goal 14 and other Goals towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda
